Anti-CAA protests: Former MLA Asif Khan released after questioning

New Delhi, Jan 24 (UNI) Former Okhla legislator Asif Mohammad Khan was released on Friday after being questioned by Delhi Police's Crime Branch for his alleged role in inciting violence in New Friends Colony and Jamia Milia Islamia during the anti-CAA protests.
Earlier, there were rumors that Mr Khan was arrested which prompted his supporters to stage a protest outside the police station.
Mr Khan took to Facebook and said, "Me Asif Mohammad Khan, want to inform you that the Crime Branch arrested me for inciting Jamia violence. Please stand by me. We will fight against this dictatorship govt together."
The Crime Branch on Thursday issued the summons to Mr Khan and Aasu Khan for questioning in connection with the violence. Mr Khan reached the Crime Branch office at Chanakyapuri on Friday afternoon and was questioned by the authority. There were rumors that Mr Khan was arrested after a long session of questioning. However, the police denied the report of his arrest.
On being asked about the arrest of Mr Khan, one police officer said, "The investigation is underway."
Last month, alleged violence broke out during Jamia Millia Islamia students' anti-CAA protest. Subsequently, police allegedly entered the varsity's library and ''beaten up some students and vandalised it''.
The Police had filled the case against Mr Khan and others local leaders for inciting the violence.
