Anime maestro Makoto Shinkai’s 'Suzume no Tojimari' release in 2023

New Delhi, May 21 (UNI) Crunchyroll, Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Wild Bunch International announced that they will release anime maestro Makoto Shinkai’s next feature, 'Suzume no Tojimari' worldwide, except Asia, in 2023.
The anime streamer will distribute the movie in North America, and will team up with Sony Pictures Entertainment to release the film in Latin America, South America, Australia/New Zealand, the Middle East, Africa and portions of Europe.
The three companies will also work together to distribute the film in both French and German within Europe.
Set to debut in Japan in November 11, the deal was finalized in Cannes and negotiated by Crunchyroll’s chief content officer Asa Suehira, Wild Bunch International’s CEO Vincent Maraval and Toho’s Akihiro Takeda.
“It’s with humility and honor that CoMix Wave Films, Makoto Shinkai and Toho have decided to partner with Crunchyroll on the next masterpiece,” said Rahul Purini, president of Crunchyroll.
“It’s also an incredible opportunity to work with our partners at Sony Pictures Entertainment and Wild Bunch International to co-distribute this film across a wide swatch of territories. We know both animation fans and general audiences will fall in love with this prestigious film, and we can’t wait to see the world’s reaction and reception to it in cinemas, festivals and for awards consideration.”
The film is described as a coming-of-age story focused on the titular Suzume, a 17-year-old girl who lives in a quiet rural town in Japan's southern Kyushu island. One day, Suzume discovers a mysterious door in the middle of an abandoned and ruined building, and is compelled to open it. When she does, however, similar doors suddenly sprout up all over Japan, unleashing disasters whenever they are opened.
Shinikai who is also known for his other acclaimed anime dramas such as, “Your Name”, “Weathering with you” and “Garden of Words”, is directing the film and writing the screenplay.
According to Shinkai, the three pivotal points about the film’s narrative are that it is a road movie around Japan, a story about "closing doors" rather than opening them, and a reason to visit the movie theater. He elaborated that closing doors can refer to tying loose ends or finishing something.
