Angela Merkel rejects UN job offer

Berlin, Jan 20 (UNI) Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel has refused a high-ranking United Nations job that was offered by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
Merkel "spoke to the U.N. secretary-general on the phone last week, thanked him and told him that she would not accept the offer," Politico quoted an official in the ex-chancellor’s office as saying on Wednesday.
Last week, the Secretary-General had offeed Merkel to lead a UN advisory board on global public goods.
The advisory board is one of Guterres' flagship projects on UN reform to "identify global public goods and other areas of common interests where governance improvements are most needed".
Merkel had left her office in December 2021 after 16 years.
