Anaj Mandi only for namesake - It's residential colony

Anaj Mandi only for namesake - It's residential colony

New Delhi , Dec 8 (UNI) The locality made news on Sunday for all wrong reasons but 'Anaj Mandi' for all practical purpose is also no longer a hub of grain market; but is only a residential area with makeshift working units and godowns.

The visit to the location makes it amply clear that the vicinity falling near Sadar Bazar does not house any grain market.

This part of the city -- where as many as 43 people died to a major fire mishap - falls in the outskirts of Old Delhi and lies within Bara Hindurao, Filmistan and Pahari Dhiraj areas - and is not so far from the Idgah.

Major markets nearby is the oldest whole sale market Sadar Bazaar and Deputy Ganj market which is known as a bulk market for steel kitchen utensils.

The old structures have been re-modelled by the people to support their present day usage, said one 72-year-old Habib Bhai, who works as a daily wager.

With the structures that are more than 60 years old, the residential areas have old settlements in the form of different Katras and Mohallas like the settlements and the housing systems those used to be in the older times.

The locality is chiefly dotted by narrow lanes and by-lanes and on Sunday these facts created hurdles in rescue operation when the firefighters reached the ill-fated venue.

The locality is also next to the Lady Reading Health School.

The vicinity has many makeshift manufacturing units like purses and scissors besides bags.

The locality also has many second hand tyre shops and godowns.
