AMWJU & EGM serves legal notice to PUCL over ‘Defamatory’ report

Imphal, Nov 6 (UNI) The All Manipur Working Journalists’ union (AMWJU) and Editors Guild Manipur have served a legal notice to the People’s union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), demanding the immediate withdrawal of what it described as a “baseless and defamatory” report that allegedly maligns the image of the journalists’ body.
According to the two bodies, the notice—prepared and served by Advocate Hijam Chandrakumar—demands an unconditional withdrawal of the PUCL report and a public apology within 30 days.
Advocate Chandrakumar, who also serves as a member of the Media Legal Committee jointly formed by AMWJU and the Editors’ Guild Manipur (EGM), said that failure to comply would leave the union with no alternative but to initiate both civil and criminal proceedings under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (Section 355), 2023.
