Ammonia gas leakage from abandoned drums create panic in Kakinada

Kakinada, Sep 12(UNI) The sudden gushing of poisonous gas from plastic drums abandoned along roadside in Autonagar area on the city outskirts in the wee hours of Saturday has created panic among the residents who ran out from houses helter skelter fearing danger to their lives.
At least five lorry drivers in the area were taken ill and rushed to nearby hospital where they were given first aid. The impact of the gas has spread to the area 200 metres radius.
On hearing the gas leakage the Sarpavaram police rushed to the spot and controlled the crowds cordoning the area. The fire tenders also rushed to the area and sprayed water which reduced the intensity of the gas within minutes.
