Ambedkar opposed Article 370: Athawale

Hyderabad, Sep 20 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment and Republican Party of India (RPI) President Ramdas Athawale on Friday said that the Father of Indian Constitution Dr B R Ambedkar opposed Article 370 granting special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

Talking to newsmen here, Mr Athwale said during Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Government's tenure, Dr Ambedkar was the Law Minister and he had opposed Article 370 when it was introduced in Parliament because he wanted 'United India'.

He (Dr Ambedkar) also wanted 'One Nation and One Plan and One Constitution', Mr Athawale said.

Dr Ambedkar said “ There should not be any dispute between any religion, language and caste “, the Minister said.

He said with Article 370, Jammu & Kashmir has separate Constitution, separate plan and there was no provision for anyone to go to J& K to start their business and purchase land. Therefore there was no development taking place in J & K since the last 70 years, he pointed out.

Mr Athawale said the terrorist activities was on the rise in Jammu and Kashmir and added the BJP-led NDA Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi after taking several issues into hand had abrogated Article 370.

After abrogation of Article 370, Mr Athawale said India is now "United India". Likewise we want united Kashmir. We do not want two parts of Kashmir--Kashmir and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK), he added.

In the past 70 years, one third of Kashmir was captured by Pakistan illegally. The Minister appealed to Pakistan that if it wants to avoid any conflict with India and wants development of Pakistan, its Prime Minister Imran Khan should handover PoK to India.
