Amartya Sen backs Kerala’s sustainable development path

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 15 (UNI) Nobel Prize-winning economist Amartya Sen today reaffirmed his strong belief in Kerala’s sustainable and inclusive development model, stating that the State has demonstrated how social progress can transform an economically modest region into one of India’s top performers.
In a video message at the inauguration of the Vision 2031 International Conference, Sen recalled that when Kerala was formed in 1957, there were widespread doubts about whether a financially backward state could achieve excellence in education and healthcare.
Today, however, Kerala ranks among the leading Indian states in income indicators, life expectancy, literacy and poverty reduction, he said, describing the achievement as the result of consistent social investment and public action.
