Almatti Dam water reaches brim due to heavy downpour

Vijayapura/Yadgir, Jul 13 (UNI) With heavy downpour in the Western Ghats and catchment areas of Krishna river, the level in Lal Bahadur Shastri Water Reservoir (Almatti Dam) has reached its brim here on Monday

According to Krishna Bhagya Jala Nigam Ltd (KBJNL ) Sources ,the Lal Bahadur Shastri reservoir (Almatti) in Vijayapura district is just two metres shy of reaching full reservoir level (FRL).

The water level in the dam on Monday touched 517.20 meters against the 519.6-metre FRL.

Inflow into the reservoir, the lifeline of north Karnataka districts, clocked 56 ,905 cusecs on Monday morning. As much as 46,130 cusecs was discharged downstream. All six units of the KPCL plant have resumed power generation, said sources.

The taluk administration has cautioned the people of the villages on the banks of downstream Krishna against venturing into the river.

Meanwhile, the Basava Sagar reservoir across the Krishna in Narayanpur village of Hunasagi taluk of Yadgir district was also briam and heavy amount of water received from upstream of the Krishna River on Monday .

The source said that 27,599 cusecs of water discharged from the river and as many as 43,616 Cusecs of water received from the river on Monday .

Due to heavy water discharge the Yadgir district administration issued alerts to river bank village residents suggesting that they do not venture into the river for fishing or other purposes including washing of animals.
