All eyes on India's date with Moon, Chandrayaan-2 set to explore lunar terrain: PM to be in Bengaluru

New Delhi, Sep 6 (UNI) Stage is set for the landing of Chandrayaan-2 on the Lunar South Pole, past midnight Friday night, opening a new vista in India's journey in space.
'We are going to land at a place where no one else has gone before,' said Indian Space Research Organisation chairman K Sivan.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will be at ISRO Centre in Bengaluru on the occasion to witness the final descent of Chandrayaan-2, said he had been monitoring all updates relating to the mission.
'I have been regularly and enthusiastically tracking all updates relating to Chandrayaan-2 since it was launched on 22nd July 2019. This Mission manifests the best of Indian talent and spirit of tenacity. Its success will benefit crores of Indians,' he said.
Meanwhile, amid the enthusiasm in public discourse on the Moon mission, Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticised the Centre for creating a hype on the landing, asserting it is an attempt to divert attention from the economic crisis facing the nation.
