All 22 persons screened for COVID-19 in Tripura test negative

Agartala, Feb 22 (UNI) Tripura health department on Saturday reiterated that no incidence of COVID-19 or novel coronavirus disease has been found in the state so far despite continuous movement of people from neighbouring countries, and all precautionary measures are in place to avoid the transmission of the infection.

Director of health and family welfare, Dr Radha Debbarma said that the health screening facilities had been installed at Indo-Bangladesh check post and Agartala airport immediately after the ministry of health had issued an alert against COVID-19 and continuous monitoring of the persons entering the state from affected countries is going on.

She said as many as 22 persons were identified by the health department, who had recently returned from the affected countries like China, Singapore, and Thailand.

However, none of them tested positive for COVID-19 in the health screening, she said, adding that all of them have been advised to stay on self-observation for at least 14 days and keep in touch with the state-run isolation ward at Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC).

According to reports, as many as ten persons of Tripura returned from China, nine have a travel history to Thailand, one has visited Hong Kong and two persons visited Singapore in the last few days after novel coronavirus alert was issued in India.

Though these people have a history of traveling to the affected countries, they showed no symptoms of the disease and were asked to remain confined to their homes.

Besides, advising these persons individually to keep in touch with the hospital, District Surveillance Officer of West Tripura has written to Madhya Pratapgarh primary health centre and Mohanpur CHC that four persons under their jurisdiction were identified to have returned to Tripura after traveling to Thailand.

As per the guidelines, they have to be compulsorily monitored twice a day for continuous 28 days.
