Alert sounded as policeman missing with service weapon in Kashmir

Srinagar, Apr 25 (UNI) An alert has been issued after a constable of Jammu and Kashmir went missing alongwith his service weapons in central Kashmir district of Badgam late Tuesday evening, official sources said.
They said nakas have been established and a number of areas were raided in Badgam and Pulwama to nab the missing soldier Tariq Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Shopian, who was posted at Pakherpora in Badgam district.
Bhat has gone missing from the police post last night, they said adding he has decamped with one a 47 rifle and other ammunition.
We have registered a missing report and taken up the investigation, they said.

About 27 youths, including a number of police and Army personnel have have joined militancy in the Kashmir valley during the past one year.
A soldier, who was posted in Bihar, Idress Sultan Mir, a resident of Wachi, in south Kashmir was among the few youths who joined militancy this month. Another youth Abid Nazir, also resident of Shopian had also joined militancy. Abid had qualified written examination of National Defence Academy (NDA) before joining militancy. However, parents of both the youths have appealed them to return home and lead a normal peaceful life.

Official sources said that during 2017, 127 youth while in 2015 and 2016, 66 and 88 youth respectively had joined militancy in the Kashmir valley.
However, over a dozen have returned to their homes after appeals by their parents after police announced that no case will be registered against them and they will be helped to lead a normal life.
About 100 others were prevented from joining militancy by the police due to timely intervention and counseling.
