Akasa Air gears up for maiden operation, unveils aircraft

New Delhi, May 23 (UNI) Billionaire investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala-backed Akasa Air on Monday unveiled the picture of its first aircraft, a Boeing 737, signalling its advanced preparedness to launch operations in Indian skies.
"Can’t keep calm! Say hi to our QP-pie!" Akasa Air said tweeting a picture of the aircraft.
The airline is planning to launch its first commercial flight in July this year. It had earlier said that the airline's code will be "QP".
Akasa Air, a brand of SNV Aviation, had in November 2021 placed an order to buy 72 Boeing 737 MAX airplanes at a list price of nearly $9 billion. The airline’s order includes two variants from the 737 MAX family, including the 737-8 and the high-capacity 737-8-200.
Entry of Akasa Air is set to intensify competition in the domestic market and benefit the consumers with lower fares and enhanced flying network.
Jet Airways which had shut down operations in 2019 has also geared up to re-start flights by September as it has obtained the re-validated flying permit from aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
