AJSU cautions Centre over its hurried decision to provide reservation to general category

Ranchi, Jan 8 (UNI) The AJSU party which is a junior ally in the NDA government of Jharkhand today cautioned the Centre over its well meaning but hurried decision to provide 10 per cent reservation to the economically backward class in the general category.
Party leader Hassan Ansari said this decision will have to pass in the examination of the constitution and the court as it has overlooked several factors.
He said for the reservation economically backward class has been categorised as those earning less than Rs 8 lakh per annum and possessing than 5 acres of land, whereas the annual income for the BPL category has been fixed at Rs 72,000. Therefore, the government has to clarify how it could have two definitions for economically backward class, he added. He, however, welcomed the Rs 8 lakh cut off to define the economically backward class.
