Hyderabad, Sep 23 (UNI) The three-day National General Council meeting of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), which began in Tirupur in Tamil Nadu on Friday has extended its full support for the country-wide campaign and struggle of All India Bank Employees' Association (AIBEA) demanding adequate recruitments in banks and opposing outsourcing of regular jobs.

AIBEA General Secretary Ch Venkatachalam, who was present in the meeting, explained to the AITUC leaders about launching country-wide campaign and struggle demanding adequate recruitments and opposing outsourcing of regular jobs in Banks.

Mr Venatachalam in a circular to all Unions and Members said on Saturday that We are happy that the AITUC General Council meeting adopted a Resolution extending its full support to our struggle.

The AITUC resolution said more than 100 crore people in our country are having their account in various banks most of which are in public sector Banks. Hence providing adequate staff is an imperative necessity.

In the name of digitalization, all people are being required to open their accounts in Banks and all the schemes and benefits therein are transferred to the beneficiaries through the Bank accounts. Hence, banking public are more and more dependent on banking services. For this propose, more staff should be provided in the Banks. Without sufficient staff, Banks cannot extend satisfactorycustomer service, it said.

But it is observed that as a result of Government’s policies, adequate staff are not being provided in the Banks and thousands of vacancies remain unfilled and vacancies arising out of retirements, death, promotions, etc. are not filled up.

Business volume has gone up enormously but there is no corresponding increase in staff, the resolution said.

One of the main reasons for non-recruitment is the Government’s policy to outsource the regular and permanent jobs in the Banks with a view to reduce staff cost and increase profits. In a country like India with huge unemployment, Government should come forward to provide more jobs for our unemployed youth.

There is also an attempt to make the Banks more officer oriented and the number of clerks and peons are drastically reduced.

To make Banks more effective in serving the people at large, there is urgent need to fill up the vacancies in Banks.

There are more than 2 lakh vacancies which are unfilled. All India Bank Employees Association has launched a nationwide campaign and struggle along with Bank level strikes in December 2023 and State-level strikes in January with 2 days continuous strikes on January 19 and 20, 2024.

This National General Council of AITUC being held in Tirupur extends its full support to this struggle and strikes in Banks, the resolution added.
