New Delhi, Dec 9 (UNI) Hearing the air pollution case, the Supreme Court on Monday allowed construction work in Delhi-NCR to resume but directed that activities must be done between 6 am to 6 pm.
The bench was headed by Justice Arun Mishra.
"Construction activities can go on from 6am to 6pm. The same construction activities can not be operative from 6pm to 6am," the bench ruled.
Central Pollution Control Board told the bench that the ban on construction activities in Delhi could be partially lifted, after which the apex court said that the construction activities can go ahead from 6am to 6pm.
The bench allowed construction activities to re-start in Delhi, with conditions that rules for dust control and setting up barriers will be followed.
"There will be no construction work during the night hours," the top court said.
The CPCB informed the Supreme Court that Delhi air is not severe but as improvement to only "poor"
Additional Solicitor General A S Nadkarni, appearing for Ministry of Environment and Forests, told the top court that the Centre is not responsible for smog towers.
Hearing on issue of use of technology to combat air pollution was adjourned to December 13 after ASG Nadkarni denied responsibility for smog towers and specific implements.
Principal Secretary, Department of Environment, Delhi government, will be on the committee set up by MoEF
Committee report on feasibility of technologies to be submitted on Friday before the top court.
