Air passengers assn urges govt not to allow advance bookings by airlines

New Delhi, Mar 15 (UNI) The airlines should not be allowed to take advance bookings especially for a year as large amount of money is on stake, Air Passengers Association of India founder and national president D Sudhakara Reddy petitioned the Government on Friday.

Urging Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu and his deputy Jayant Sinha, Mr Reddy said it was seen in the past also, airlines such as Paramount, Kingfisher and SpiceJet have taken advance bookings but they lost all their monies when their aircraft grounded and schedules disrupted.

“@sureshpprabhu @jayantsinha @MoCA_GoI - Sir-U shld't allow Airlines to do forward booking splly for a year. Past experience shows gullible PAX lost 100's of crores when Paramount,Kingfisher& spicejet(5years ago) collected money in the name of advance booking & when their schedules were disrupted/aircraft grounded,PAX lost all their monies, he said in a tweet.

The Association president also urged the Government that cash-stripped Jet Airways should not be allowed to take prior bookings with fancy offers as the airline’s situation has been worsening day by day.

In wake of the March 10 Ethiopian airline accident, India and more than 50 countries have banned the Boeing 737 Max fleet in their airspace. Following which, Indian airlines SpiceJet and Jet Airways have to cancel their flights. Besides, the debt-ladden Jet Airways have have grounded more than three dozen planes, forcing hundreds of flights to be cancelled due to non-payment of salaries, lease rentals and bank loans.
