Hyderabad, Sept 24 (UNI) In the backdrop of continued efforts on the part of the Union Government to push through their banking reforms agenda, All India Bank Employees' Association ( AIBEA) will organise a two-day Banking Conclave - 'Banks Ki Unnathi-Deshi Ki Unnathi' at Mumbai from November 19. AIBEA General Secretary Ch Venkatachalam told UNI today that in addition to opposing these retrograde measures through strikes and other organisational measures, it is also necessary to highlight and popularise the positive view points and suggestions for the betterment of the banking sector and for subserving the objectives of bank nationalisation so that banks become engines of growth and development. He said in the changing scenario, 'We also need to suggest alternative measures that would help to tackle the emerging banking crisis including the alarming bad loans that are threatening to kill our Banks and added in view of this, the banking conclave was organised.' Eminent economists and bankers are expected to take part and and speak on current issues like Ownership and capitalisation of banks, Role and relevance of public sector banking, Structure of banking sector – expansion or consolidation, Rural credit in tackling agrarian crisis, Role of Banks in employment generation and economic development, Banking as a fundamental right – inclusion not exclusion Democratisation of banks and threatening increase in bad loans. Mr Venkatachalam said experts will present their papers on these issues in eight different sessions and there would be discussions on these papers. Banking experts, economists, academicians, journalists, etc will be invited to participate in the Conclave to make their contributions.
