AG to SC: Proper security measures taken to ensure data safety

New Delhi, Mar 21 (UNI) Attorney General (AG), top law officer representing the central government, on Wednesday told the Supreme Court's five-judge constitution bench that proper security measures were taken to ensure that data were not leaked out in any form from the data centres.
The Centre sought the apex court's intervention to make a PowerPoint presentation in the court on Aadhaar by UIDAI CEO to allay all the apprehensions and people's fears about Aadhaar.
The bench said, it would let him (AG) know if a PowerPoint presentation on Aadhaar was required or needed to be shown inside the courtroom.
The top court said those downtrodden who need food and shelter also had a right to privacy and the state cannot violate that.
The Centre said through Aadhaar, food, shelter and employment were being given to those who lived in the fringe and for this the government has taken care that right to privacy was not affected at the most minimal level, the AG said.
The five-judge constitution bench of the top court, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra, and four other Judges, who were hearing the arguments and submissions from petitioners and respondents, were, Justices Arjan Kumar Sikri, Ashok Bhushan, DY Chandrachud, and AM Khanwilkar.
Many appeals are being filed before the apex court challenging the constitutional validity of Aadhaar and the Centre making it mandatory for linking Aadhaar with bank accounts, mobile phones and others.
