After Rahul's tweet on trapped miners, Meghalaya CM says rescue operation is on

New Delhi, Dec 26 (UNI) Hours after Congress president Rahul Gandhi slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for being allegedly indifferent to the plight of the 15 miners trapped in rat-hole in NDA-ruled Meghalaya, the state Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Wednesday maintained that the authorities were "very prompt" in sending their best people to help in the rescue operations.
"NDRF and State Government have been continuously working on the rescue operations," tweeted the Chief Minister Mr Sangma, who is heading NPP - BJP coalition Ministry in the North Eastern state.
The Chief Minister wrote that "the scale of the operation is a major challenge as water from a river has entered the mines."
The message from the Chief Minister on the micro-blogging site comes after the Congress president said that "the government refuses to organise high pressure pumps for the rescue. Prime Minister please save the miners.”
The Congress party in its official twitter handle also targeted the central government and said "It's been ten days since the request for high powered pumps required for the rescue of 15 miners in Meghalaya is pending. Why do the lives of these 15 individuals matter so little to the Modi government"?
In his response Mr Sangma tagged his missive to Prime Minister Modi and also to Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju.
Fifteen miners are reportedly stuck in a 370-foot-deep coal mine in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills district after water from the nearby Lytein river entered into the rat-holes.
According to reports, the National Disaster Response Force’s 1st Battalion has pumped out 20 lakh litres of water from the mine and the operation is continuing.
