Adding to the farmers woes the release of water to irrigation canals from Almatti Reservoir stopped since Nov 14

Vijayapura , Nov 19 (UNI) Adding to the woes of farmers, the release of water to irrigation canals from Almatti Reservoir was stopped since November 14 due to shortage of wate level for the first time in the history of Lal Bahadur Shastry Sagar.
According to the Krishna Bhagya Jala Nigam Ltd (KBJNL) Source, the release of water into the canals of river Krishna Command area in Vijayapura and Yadgir distrrict in Karnataka has been stopped since November 14 due to low water level at Almatti reservoir.
KBJNL Chief Engineer G Krishne Gowda said that this decision was taken into the Upper Krishna Project Irrigation Consulted Committee (ICC) meeting held on November 10. Naryanpur Reservoir received 450 tmcft of water and more than 352 tmcft of water was released to Andhra Pradesh. After November 14, when the release of water in the canals will be completely stopped, the dam will have only 51 tmcft of water left, of which 44 tmcft is needed for various purposes, including industrial needs.
