Actual rainfall to be less than average rainfall: Predicts Met dept

New Delhi, Sep 19 (UNI) On the contrary to the Meteorological Department's prediction for more than average rainfall during monsoon this year, the actual rainfall will be less than the average rainfall due to delay in the La-nina effect.
Secretary to the Ministry of Earth Sciences, M Rajeevan told mediapersons here today that the monsoon this year would be normal but less than the long term average. The long term normal rainfall is considered between 96 per cent to 104 per cent.
He said that it was assumed that La-nina will become active this time which will result in excess rainfall but the effect got delayed which resulted in less rainfall in mid of August and September.
