Act against banks for delaying compensation to farmers: Kiran Choudhry

Chandigarh, July 10 (UNI) Leader of the Haryana Congress Legislature Party Kiran Choudhary, has asked the BJP Government, led by Mr Manohar Lal Khattar, to take strict action against such banks as they are sitting over dispersal of compensation awarded to the cotton growers who had suffered huge losses due to the white fly attack, and also find out other reasons, if any, for non-dispersal of Rs 270 crore to them in Hisar, Fatehabad and Sirsa districts.
In a statement issued here today, the former excise and taxation minister, said it was matter of great concern why there were no takers for close to Rs 270 crore (about 40 per cent of the compensation) to be disbursed among the affected farmers in the three districts. The government must answer the why of it and address the issue. Out of the total compensation of Rs 976 crore in the state, Rs 689 crore was awarded to the farmers in the three districts of Hisar division.
“That the state government is sitting smug over the farmers not getting what has been long due to them is a telling commentary on how much the BJP Government, which keeps shedding crocodile tears, cares for the farmers. The allegation made by the Kisan Sabha in Bhuna block of Fatehabad, about Rs 1 crore is stuck due to delay on the part of a private bank must be gone into and the guilty proceeded against”, Ms Choudhry demanded.
