Accused in rape and suicide of dalit girl held, sent to judicial custody- Minister

Bhubaneswar, Nov 26 (UNI) The accused in the rape and suicide of a dalit girl at Nuagaon in Jagatsinghpur district has been arrested and an interim compensation of Rs one lakh paid to victim’s family, Odisha Minister of state for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra told the state assembly today.
Making a statement in the house, Mr.Mishra said accused Deepak Behura was arrested on November 11 last U/S 354-A,/354-D, 306, 292,(2) (a),509 of IPC read with sec (3)(1) (w) (i) (ii) (r), 3, 2 (va) of SC/ST (POA) Act and later sent to judicial custody.
The Minister made the statement on the direction of Speaker S N Patro who ruled that the government will make a statement on the issue after the opposition congress and BJP members stalled the business of the house for a major part of the day yesterday demanding statement from Chief Minister.
