New Delhi, Jul 17 (UNI) About 99 per cent polling was recorded in today’s presidential elections held in Parliament premises and state Assemblies across the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the first to cast his vote in Parliament premises here, followed by other senior leaders, Lok Sabha Secretary General Anoop Mishra, who is the Returning Officer for presidential polls told reporters here. NDA’s Ram Nath Kovind is pitted against Ms Meira Kumar of the joint Opposition in today’s elections. The President is chosen by an electoral college comprising all the MPs and MLAs in the country, with weighted votes apportioned. As many as 233 elected members of the Rajya Sabha, 543 members from the Lok Sabha and 4,120 MLAs from the state Assemblies comprise the electors. UNI DEVN AD SHK 1917
