About 45 injured in fresh Kashmir violence after Friday prayers

Srinagar, Sep 30 (UNI) About 45 people were injured, some of them with pellets, as fresh clashes erupted between demonstrators and security forces after Friday prayers in the Kashmir valley, where life remained crippled due to curfew, restrictions and strike for the 84th day today. A police spokesman said here this evening that there were stray incidents of violence after Friday. However, he did not give details about the casualties. Security forces fired pellets and burst teargas shells to disperse demonstrators at Nadihal Rafiabad in Baramulla district of north Kashmir after Friday prayers. The trouble started when ''pro-freedom'' demonstrators, defied restrictions and tried to march in the area. Security forces burst teargas shells and also fired pellets to disperse the demonstrators who were pelting stones. About a dozen persons were injured, official sources said, adding that two of the injured with pellet wounds were referred to Srinagar. Protests erupted at Tral in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, where people took to the streets against Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti who had recently said that the area (Tral) did not witness any death or pellet injuries as people organised peaceful rallies. The processionists later clashed with the security forces, who burst teargas shells to restore normalcy. Some people were injured. Similar clashes were also reported at Beehama in Ganderbal district, Pattan, Palhalan and cement bridge and some areas in Sopore in Baramulla district. Several persons were injured in these clashes. Hundreds of people, mostly women, took to the streets at Karimabad in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, alleging that security forces damaged hundreds of fruit boxes yesterday. However, a police spokesman said here this evening that district authorities Pulwama have clarified that yesterday an Army domination patrol was moving in the area where some miscreants had placed obstacles as well as apple boxes on the road. He said the miscreants pelted stones on the forces, who showed maximum restraint. To report that apple boxes have been damaged by the force is far from the truth and malicious in the intent. The miscreants had damaged the boxes. Security forces fired several rounds in the air when they came under stone pelting at Dadnderkha Batmaloo, where curfew had been imposed. No one was injured, they said. Security forces burst teargas shells and also resorted to lathicharge to disperse demonstrators at several places in the city where people took to the streets after Friday prayers at Rainawari, Dalgate Soura, Tailbal, Abiguzar, Natipora, Barzulla, Baghe-e-Mehtab, Chattabal, Mahjoor Nagar and Nowgam.
