About 100 pilgrims leave for Cave, 2.15 lakh yatris have darshan so far

Srinagar, Aug 3 (UNI) Despite early morning rain about 100 pilgrims left Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam base camps for the holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas, where so far over 2.15 lakh yatris had paid obeisance since the commencement of the 48-day-long yatra from July 2. Due to some disturbances on the highway following death of a youth on Srinagar-Jammu national highway at Lehtpora, no yatri had arrived from Jammu at Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam base camps. Yatris have been stopped on other side of the Jawhar tunnel for security reasons. Similarly no yatri could leave base camps for Jammu. There was heavy showers in the morning at Baltal because of which we had to stop yatris for about an hour, a yatra official told UNI. He said later about 40 pilgrims left the base camp for the holy cave shrine through this shortest route. The pilgrims are likely to reach the cave shrine in the afternoon. Meanwhile, pilgrims who had darshan at the cave shrine yesterday also left for Baltal base camp this morning. He said about 60 pilgrims, including women and sadhus, left Nunwan Pahalgam base camp for Chandanwari, the last motorable halting station on traditional route this morning. Meanwhile, pilgrims, who had night halt at Chandanwari and other halting stations have also started their onward journey towards the cave shrine. A fresh batch of pilgrims, including women and sadhus had darshan at the cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas yesterday. With this a total of 2,15,690 Yatris had darshan at the Holy Cave since the commencement of the annual yatra. Majority of the pilgrims had returned to their homes. UNI BAS ASM ADG RAI1101
