AAP-LIP delegation urges EC to appoint independent observer from another state

Chandigarh, Feb 2 (UNI) A joint delegation of Aam Aadmi Party and Lok Insaaf Party on Friday met the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Punjab State Election Commission to raise the issues related to Ludhiana Municipal Corporation Election, 2018.
The AAP-LIP delegation comprises of Leader of Opposition Sukhpal Singh Khaira, Lok Insaaf Party president Simarjeet Singh Bains, AAP MLA Kanwar Sandhu and LIP MLA Balwainder Singh Bains.
Addressing the media after the meeting, they said that as the whole official machinery has been used by the present government for its benefit, so it is the need of the hour to appoint a suitable and independent observer from outside the state of Punjab to ensure free and fair elections.
Mr Simarjeet Bains said that even the police officials and other official staff have been helping the candidates of ruling parties in achieving their nefarious designs.
A number of complaints have been lodged against these officials but nothing has been done in this regard till date. He said that even the Punjab and Haryana High Court have asked the state government to conduct elections in transparent, fair and impartial manner.
Mr Khaira said that Congress is trying every possible means to hijack the present elections but AAP-LIP alliance will never let it happen and will ensure the people of Ludhiana can exercise their electoral duty properly.
He also said that keeping in mind the way in which present government has concluded the recent Amritsar, Jalandhar and Patiala Municipal Corporation elections it is mandatory to appoint observer from outside state to conduct the elections of Ludhiana Municipal Corporation.
