New Delhi, Aug 22 (UNI) The Delhi Assembly on Thursday demanded that the Centre should immediately bring an Ordinance to allot land for a magnificent Ravidas Temple.
Bedlam broke loose as the ruling party members protested against the demolition of the Guru Ravidas temple in Tughlaqabad by the DDA.
Deputy Speaker Rakhi Birla created ruckus as the AAP lawmakers, carrying placards, stormed the well of the House, raising slogans against the Bharatiya Janata Party over Dalit organisations’ protest on Ravidas temple demolition issue.
The House took up a discussion on the demolition of Guru Ravidas Temple in Tughlaqabad area by DDA under Calling Attention (Rule-54) on the first day of the Monsoon session of the Assembly.
Resolution
Aam Aadmi Party MLA Vishesh Ravi sought to draw the attention of Union Minister of Urban Development Hardeep Singh Puri on 'situation arising out of the demolition of historical Temple of Guru Ravi Das in Tughlaqabad area by Delhi Development Authority.
'This House further resolves to convey the sentiments of millions of people to the Central Government and demands that the Centre must immediately bring an Ordinance to allot the said land for Ravidas Mandir.
'This House also resolves that the Delhi Government should construct a magnificent Ravidas Mandir at the same site after the Centre allots the land,' read the text of the resolution.
Taking part in the debate, BJP MLA Om Prakash Sharma supported the resolution.
'We also want that the Temple is constructed,' he said.
Delhi Waqf Board chairman Amanatullah Khan has proposed that it is ready to bear the cost of reconstruction of Guru Ravidas Temple at Tughlaqabad in south Delhi.
