AAP demands compensation for auto driver swept away in Delhi drain

New Delhi, Oct 6 (UNI) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Delhi over its handling of the incident where an auto-rickshaw driver was swept away in a Mehrauli drain on September 30. The AAP has demanded a compensation of 10 lakh rupees for the driver's family.
AAP MLA Kuldeep Kumar, addressing a press conference, said that even after six days, the driver's body has not been recovered. He further claimed that neither Chief Minister Rekha Gupta nor any BJP minister or representative has visited the grieving family. Kuldeep Kumar accused the BJP government of being preoccupied with "theatrics" and "photo shoots" while failing to fulfill the promises made in its election manifesto, the 'Viksit Dilli Sankalp Patra 2025'. He specifically highlighted unfulfilled assurances for auto-rickshaw drivers, including a 10 lakh rupee insurance cover that was supposed to be effective from September 17, 2025.
The AAP leader contrasted the current administration's response with that of the previous AAP government, citing an instance where 20 lakh rupees was provided as compensation in a similar drowning incident in Ghazipur.
