New Delhi, Aug 14 (UNI) On the eve of Independence Day, 926 policemen across the country have been awarded with police medals, out of which 215 have been selected for Police Medal for gallantry Service , 80 for President's Medal for Distinguished Service and 631 for Police Medal for Distinguished Service.
Jammu and Kashmir Police has received the highest number of 81 Gallantry awards, while the Central Reserve Police Force has received 55 and the Uttar Pradesh Police has received 23 medals.
Delhi Police has received 16 medals and Maharashtra Police has got 14 medals. Jharkhand Police 12, Assam five, Chhattisgarh and Arunachal three each, Telangana two and Border Security Force one gallantry medal.
hose who received the President's Medal for distinguished service include 8 from the Intelligence Bureau (IB), six each from Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Uttar Pradesh Police, five each from Border Security Force and Maharashtra Police, four each from Central Reserve Police Force and Madhya Pradesh Police and three each of Indo- Tibetan Police Force and Delhi Police .
Those who received the Police Medal for distinguished service include 73 policemen from Uttar Pradesh Police, 59 from CRPF, 46 from BSF, 28 from Intelligence Bureau, 21 from Tamil Nadu Police, 20 from West Bengal, 18 from Karnataka and 16 from Delhi Police.
Out of 215 policemen awarded with gallantry medals, 123 have been awarded for gallantry in Jammu and Kashmir, 29 policemen have been awarded medals for bravery in Naxal-affected areas and 8 in the North-East region.
