9 narcotic smugglers arrested; narcotics worth crores, Rs 24.23 lakh in cash seized in J&K

Jammu, Nov 24 (UNI) Terming it ‘surgical strike’ on drug peddlers, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday claimed to have seized narcotics worth crores alongwith cash of Rs 25 lakh and arrested nine persons in separate incidents across Jammu region.
"Jammu and Kashmir Police have achieved a major success in its fight against drugs when during a series of raids in different parts of Jammu city and its surrounding areas, four persons were arrested with 15.3-kg heroine and Rs 24.23 lakh cash," S D Singh Jamwal, Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, told reporters here this afternoon.
He said that besides cash, two cars have also been seized during the raids and added, ‘’the total value of the seized heroine is more than Rs 75 crores in international market’’.
He said that the contraband was seized during a series of raids conducted in Gangyal and Gandhi Nagar areas here on Thursday night and identified the accused persons as Rakesh Kumar alias Bobby, resident of Amritsar, Punjab, Sanjeev Sharma alias Sanjay, resident of Indira Nagar, Jammu, Ashtyaq Ahmed, resident of Thanna Mandi and Sunny Kumar, resident of Smailpur Kothey, Jammu.
"Entire operation was conducted on the basis of specific inputs," said the top cop.
He said, "it is a surgical strike on drug mafia and Jammu and Kashmir Police committed in curbing the menace with iron hands".
He said that the recovery is year’s biggest in Jammu region and added, "investigations into the matter are in progress and more arrests cannot be ruled out as the arrested persons may spill the beans".
Mr Singh further said that Police also recovered 50 Kgs of poppy husk from a truck which was coming from Kashmir to Mughal Road in Poonch district.
Two persons namely Jasdev Singh, resident of Nagra, Ludhiana and Balvinder Khan, resident of Nagra, Ludhiana, Punjab were arrested.
In a separate incident, Special Operation Group team, Rajouri laid a trap on old bus stand and zeroed a bus
During a search driver Mohammad Junaid, resident of Peer Badesar was nabbed with 60 grams of Heroin, while his companion namely Imran Zari, resident of Ward no 8 Rajouri was nabbed with 50 grams of Heroin.
In yet another operation, police recovered 2.7-kg of charas from a taxi which was coming from Srinagar to Jammu.
Police said that one Momin Ahmed Dar, resident of Adar Bijbehera, Anantnag was arrested on the spot.
