9 killed in road accident in Kannauj: Forest official dies in road mishap

Kannauj, July 11(UNI) Tragedy hit the district, when nine persons were killed and three others injured, after their vehicle hit a lorry on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway in the early hours of Wednesday.

All the victims belonged to Alwar district of Rajasthan and were returning from a pilgrimage to Naimisharanyam in Sitapur district, when the mishap took place. Naimisharanyam, also known as Neemsar, Nimsar or Nimkhar, is a temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu.

The accident took place under Tirwa police station in the early hours, Additional SP in Kannauj, Keshav Chandra Goswami said, adding that the injured were rushed to a hospital.

The deceased were yet to be identified, he said.

Meanwhile in another tragic mishap reported from Shahjahanpur, an Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer was killed and another injured, when their car hit a tanker in Tilhar area of the district on Wednesday morning.

Local police revealed that Anand Kumar Jain (59), posted as Additional Forest Conservator in Shahjahanpur, was killed on the spot. Police have seized the tanker and arrested its driver. A case has been also registered in this regard and the body was sent for post-mortem examination.
