843 dams in Marathwada become dry

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, May 28 (UNI) With the drought condition in eight districts of Marathwada becoming worst due to scanty rainfall for past three consecutive years as well as intense summer heat, only 113 MCM (one per cent) live usable water is left as compared to 10 per cent last year in 843 dams of the region having total storage capacity of 7,980 MCM.
A report here today said that all the dams in the region have virtually become dry, even as the Monsoon is about two weeks away, forcing the administration to press into service more number of water tankers in the affected villages and hamlets of the region to tackle the situation.
Near about 3,900 tankers were supplying water to about 55 lakh people in these villages, setting a record in the history of Marathwada.
