74th birthday of late Rajiv Gandhi to be celebrated in Amethi

Amethi, Aug 19 (UNI) The Congress will celebrate the 74th birthday of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi as it will organise a series of functions in Amethi on Monday that includes cultural programmes, a photo exhibition and sporting events like half marathon.
Rajiv Gandhi, who was born on August 20, 1944 had won elections from Amethi four times in 1981, 1984, 1989 and 1991.
Yogendra Mishra, president of Amethi District Congress Committee, and Chandra Kant Dubey, representative of Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi, said the party will organise a rural half-marathon in which local youth will take part. Students from local school and college would also take part, Mishra said.
ā€œIn the evening cultural programme will be organised in which local talent will perform. They will be honored by senior party leaders,ā€ he said in a statement.
The Congress has also decided to collect photographs of Rajiv Gandhi from Amethi residents to mark the day, and will organise a week-long exhibition titled "Hamare Rajiv" at the party office in Gauriganj, the district headquarter.
