74 per cent rural people, 42 per cent depends on agriculture and 27 per cent contribution of agriculture in GSDP of Tripura

Udaipur, Nov 11 (UNI) It is the report published in the official publication of Tripura government that the state Tripura is primarily an agrarian economy.
More than 42 per cent of population of the state now directly depends on agriculture & allied activites and its contribution to the GSDP is about 27 percent. Small and marginal farmers constitute about 96 per cent of the total farmers in the state against 78 per cent, that of country. Agriculture and allied activities are still the backbone of the State's economy.
The report of economic review of Tripura reveals that about 74 percent of the State’s population lives in rural areas. The uplift of rural poor as well as improvement in the quality of life of the economically weaker section of the society has been one of the basic objectives of development of planning and policy decisions in the State.
