70 million working women in India risk leaving workforce after pregnancy loss: Report

Thiruvananthapuram, June 11 (UNI) Nearly 78 million working women in India fear losing their jobs or facing negative career consequences if they disclose a miscarriage, while about 70 million would consider leaving the workforce altogether if employers fail to provide adequate support following pregnancy loss, according to a first-of-its-kind national study commissioned by Quest Global.
The findings, released as part of Quest Global’s new “Break the Silence” campaign, underscore the significant but often overlooked impact of pregnancy loss on India's workforce.
The company has urged corporate leaders to recognise pregnancy loss not merely as a personal health issue but as a workplace challenge affecting productivity, employee retention, inclusion and career progression.
