5th ODI: India beat New Zealand by 35 runs, win series 4-1

Wellington, Feb 3 (UNI) Ambati Rayudu 90 off 113 and all-rounder Hardik Pandya's 45 and two wicket spell helped India emerge victorious against New Zealand by 35 runs in the fifth and last ODI winning the series 4-1 here on Sunday.
India opening pair Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan fell cheaply at 2 and 6, but managed to put up a challenging score of 252 in 49.5 overs before the Kiwis but in reply the hosts chasing a target of 253 were bundled out for 217 in 44.1 overs.
Earlier, India skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat, but started badly after they lost 4 wickets till 10th over scoring just 18 runs.
Rohit 2, Shikhar Dhawan 6, Shubman Gill 7, and M S Dhoni fell at score of 1. But after that Ambati Rayudu 90, Vijay Shankar 45, Kedar Jadhav 34 and Hardik Pandya 45 helped India reach to a respectable total.
Then visitors lost 4 wickets in the last 5 overs, but Pandya's magnificent five sixes they managed to score 54 runs.
Yhen Rayudu 90 of 113 smashed 8 fours and 4 sixes while Shankar 45 off 64 hit 4 fours.
Jadhav 45 off 34 hit 3 fours. India had lost 7 wickets at score of 203 runs. Then Pandya 45 off 22 took the score to 252. Pandya did not spare leg spinner and smashed three consecutive sixes in 47th over.
In 48th and 49th over also hit sixes in Trent Boult and Neesham's spell also. Then in the 49th over Pandya striked 2 fours and hit 1 four and in the same overs last bowl was bowled out in Boult's spell.
India lost two wickets in the last over ending their innings with still one ball remaining.

Chasing target of 253 runs by India, New Zealand lost 3 wickets at 38 and after that the hosts kept
struggling to remain in hunt in the match. Pacer Mohammed shami took two and Pandya bagged one putting the Kiwis on backfoot.
Then Shami grabbed wickets of Henry Nicholls 8 and Collin Munro 24. Taylor was lbw in Pandya's
spell after he scored only one runs. If Taylor had opted for DRS he would have been saved but after consulting captain Williamson he went back to the pavillion.
Willamson 39 along with wicketkeeper Tom Latham 37 scored 67 runs for the fourth wicket partnership. Part-time spinner Kedar Jadhav broke the partnership after scalping wicket of Williamson.
Then Latham lbw in Chahal's spell New Zealand lost their fifth wicket at score of 119. Williamson in his 39 runs off 73 hit 3 fours while Latham after playing 49 balls smashed 3 fours.
Grandhomme lbw in Chahal's spell at 11, James Neesham was run out by wicketkeeper Dhoni after scoring 44 off 32 hitting 4 fours and 2 sixes in Jadhav's spell.

Chahal then struck wicket of Astle at 10, Pandya took Santner's wicket 22 and Bhuvneshwar Kumar
scalped wicket of Trent Boult bundling out New Zealand's innings for 217.
Chahal took 3/41, Shami 35/2, Pandya 50/2, Kumar 38/1 and Jadhav 34/1.
Rayudu was adjudged Player of the Match and Shami Player of the Series.
