543 new Coronavirus positive cases, 8 deaths reported in UT since last 24 hrs

Puducherry, Sep 23 (UNI) As many as 543 more persons were tested positive for the Coronavirus and eight patients died in the Union Territory in the last 24 hours.
The total number of active cases ending at 10 A.M on Wednesday stood at 4,853.
According to the COVID-19 status released by the health department here, 353 new cases were reported in Puducherry region, 151 in Karaikal region, 14 in Yanam region and 25 in Mahe region.
As many as 439 persons were discharged in the last 24 hours. Of them, 322 were from Puducherry region, 69 from Karaikal region, 40 from Yanam region and 8 from Mahe region.
Of the eight deaths, seven were reported in Puducherry region and one in Yanam region.
Presently 1452 patients are being treated in Puducherry region, 161 in Karaikal region, 167 in Yanam region and 41 in Mahe region.
Another 3032 persons tested positive for the virus were in home isolation in all the four regions of the UT.
So far, 24,227 persons are infected by the virus and of which 18,893 were treated and discharged, 481 died and 4,853 patients were in hospitals and home isolation.
Meanwhile, Director of Medical Services (DMS) Dr Mohan Kumar in a Whatsapp posting said that of the 5642 sample tests conducted on Tuesday, 543 persons tested positive for COVID-19.
The fatality rate in the UT is 1.99 per cent and recovery rate is 77.98 per cent, he said.
Two men aged 45 and 48 years and a 75-year-old woman died in the government medical college in the last 24 hours while a 71-year-old man and a 77-year -old female died in Jipmer.
A 62-year-old man died in the Manakula Vinayagar Medical College (Covid Care Center) and a 65-year-old man died outside Puducherry (which comes under Puducherry list) and a 52-year-old man died in the Yanam Government Hospital.
All of them died due to Coronavirus related issues such as Covid Pneumonia, ARDS and Septic shock. Three among them were not having any comorbidity.
