5 Indian films to compete for ICFT-UNESCO Gandhi Medal

Panaji, Nov 20 (UNI) Five Indian films will be competing for prestigious ICFT-UNESCO Gandhi Medal to be presented in the 48th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) which begins here today.
International Council for Film, Television and Audiovisual Communication (ICFT), Paris, in collaboration with the IFFI will present a special ICFT prize consisting of the UNESCO Gandhi Medal awarded to a film which reflects the ideals promoted by UNESCO.
The Indian films competing in the section were Kshitij-A Horizon (Marathi), Manusangada (Tamil), Poorna (Hindi), Railway Children (Kannada) and Take Off (Malayalam).
The other films from across the world competing in the section were Amok (Polish), Khibula (Georgia, Germany, Franc), The Last Painting (Taiwan), and Women of the Weeping River (English, Spanish).
The films elected in the section explore the themes of peace, harmony and unity.
The medal bears a portrait of Gandhi engraved by the French artist Pierre-Yves Tremois. Etched underneath is the Mahatma's message of hope: "In the mist of darkness light prevails." The reverse side carries the UNESCO Logo.
