New Delhi, Aug 11 (UNI) High-speed 4G mobile internet services will be allowed on a trial basis in two districts in Jammu and Kashmir after August 15, the Centre told the Supreme Court on Tuesday.
Attorney General KK Venugopal informed a three-judge bench headed by justice NV Ramana that a special committee has decided that trial will be done one district each in Jammu and one in the Kashmir valley and the situation will be reviewed after two months.
Mr. Venugopal said that the committee has also said that high speed internet facility can be restored in a few areas of J&K with strict surveillance. But these areas should be less affected in terms of terrorist activities.
The Attorney General said that the committee also believes that there is still no favourable environment for restoring 4G Internet service in the Union Territory.
The Supreme court was hearing a petition filed by Foundation for Media Professionals, a non-government organisation, in June seeking the initiation of contempt proceedings against the Centre and Jammu and Kashmir administration for the failure to comply with the Apex Court's May 11 directions to review restrictions on mobile internet speed in the UT.
