47th IFFI comes to close

Panaji, Nov 28 (UNI) The nine-day-long 47th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), which was a carnival of films, celebration, glitz, glamour and learning for the year 2016, came to an end with the Closing and Award Ceremony here. Goa Governor Mridula Sinha graced the occasion in the presence of state Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting Colonel (retired) Rajyavardhan Rathore and chief guest S S Rajamouli. IFFI 2016 had three competition sections and the awards were presented in the following categories - Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor (Male), Best Actor (Female), Special Jury Award, Centenary Award for Best Debut Feature of a Director Competition, ICFT-UNESCO Gandhi Award and ICFT-UNESCO Jury Mention Award. Fifteen films were competing under the International Competition section, including two Indian Panorama films - Ishti and Sahaj Pathar Gappo. Reza Mirkirami, director and producer of ‘Daughter’, collected Best Film Award from Governor Sinha, Col Rathore, Jury chairperson Ivan Passer and chief guest Rajamouli and received the coveted Golden Peacock Trophy, a certificate and Rs 40 lakh in cash. Baris Kaya and Soner Caner shared the Best Director Award for their film ‘Rauf’. They received Rs 7.50 lakh, the Silver Peacock Trophy and a certificate each from Chief Minister Parsekar, Steering Committee member Bharat Bala and Jury member Nagesh Kukunoor. Farhad Aslani won the Best Actor (Male) Award for his performance in ‘Daughter’, which also won the Best Film Award. Col Rajyavardhan Rathore, Jury member, Lordan Zafranovic, Steering Committee member Sudhir Mishra, Goa chief secretary R K Srivasatava rewarded him with cash prize of Rs 10 lakh, Silver Peacock Trophy and a certificate. The Best Actor (Female) award was given to Elina Vaska for her acting in ‘Mellow Mud’. She received the prestigious Silver Peacock Trophy, a certificate and Rs 10 lakh in cash from Col Rathore, Jury member Leila Kilani, Entertainment Society of Goa vice chairman Rajendra Talak and Ministry of Information & Broadcasting additional secretary Jayashree Mukherjee. Director Lee Joon-ik won the Special Jury Award for his creation ‘The Throne’. Steering Committee member A K Bir, Entertainment Society of Goa chief executive officer Ameya Abhyankar and Jury member Larry Smith rewarded him with cash prize of Rs 15 lakh, Silver Peacock Trophy and a certificate. The jury of International Competition for IFFI 2016 was headed by Ivan Passer. Nagesh Kukunoor, Leila Kilani, Larry Smith and Lordan Zafranovic were the four members of the jury. ‘Ra Ra’ took the Centenary Award for Best Debut Feature of a Director, introduced at IFFI for the first time this year. Its director, Maria Jose San Martin Munita, was felicitated by Governor Sinha, Col Rathore, Jury chairperson Ivan Passer and chief guest Rajamouli with the Silver Peacock Trophy, a Certificate and Rs 10 lakh in cash for her debut. Reflecting the ideals of peace, tolerance and non-violence, ‘Cold of Kalander’ won the ICFT-UNESCO Gandhi Medal. Mustafa Kara, the director of film, was felicitated with the prestigious ICFT-UNESCO Gandhi Award Medal and a Certificate by Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting Col Rathore and ICFT-UNESCO representative Lola Poggi Goujon. Director Tiffany Hsiung won the ICFT-UNESCO Jury Mention Certificate for her film ‘Apology’. She was felicitated by Col Rathore and ICFT-UNESCO representative Lola Poggi Goujon. The ICFT-UNESCO Gandhi Medal Competition Jury was headed by Inoussa Ousseini. The other five members of the jury included Jean Roy, Costa Gavras, Lola Poggi Goujon, Xueyuan Hun and Georges Dupont.
