Srinagar, Dec 11 (UNI) Four policemen were killed in a militant attack at a police post in south Kashmir district of Shopian on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Official sources told UNI that militants attacked a police post guarding minority community at Zainapora in Shopian, resulting in injuries to four policemen. “The injured were immediately taken to a local hospital, where three of them were declared brought dead,” they said.
The fourth policeman was referred to a hospital in Srinagar in a critical condition. However, the injured policeman succumbed on way to the hospital.
They said the militants after carrying out the attack decamped with four service rifles, adding the minority community was safe as the attack was carryout on the policemen.
“Security forces have been rushed to the area and a search operation has been launched to nab the attackers,” they said.
The slain policemen were identified as Constable Anees Ahmad, a resident of Kulgam, Constable Mehraj-ud-din, Constable Hameedullah, a resident of Anantnag, a resident of Hajin Bandipora and Selection Grade Constable Abdul Majid, a resident of Ganderbal.
