38th Agartala Bookfair begins

Agartala, Feb 26 (UNI) Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, Revenue Minister N C Debbaram and Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath opened the 12-day long 38th Agartala Bookfair at Hapania International fairground on Wednesday calling people to celebrate the event as a knowledge festival.
Agartala Book Fair is an annual event of the state since 1980 and this is for the first time the state government have shifted it 7 kms away from the city in the international fairground.The Tripura government have introduced free shuttle from different points of the city to the book fair ground among other facilities.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Deb stressed on the importance of books in the digital era and urged the parents to develop the habit of reading among the children. He observed that due to digital facilities, people have lost charm in reading and using online versions for getting reference and information.
