3 people from Sikkim test Corona Positive

Gangtok,Jul 14 (UNI) After almost 110 days of not getting a single Coronavirus case, three commoners have tested positive in Sikkim.
The cases have been reported from Rhenock and Rongli.
"One health worker, one policeman and another person have been found coronavirus positive. Altogether, 45 new patients have been admitted in hospital for treatment," said Dr Pempa Tshering DG cum Secretary Health, here today.
"Active cases stand at 112 and all of them are in hospital. A total of 86 people have been discharged so far," he added.
The new infections have been reported from General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) in Rongli.
The contact tracing of the infected patients is being done, he said, adding that all the contacts will be tested.
Due to this, situation in Rongli –Rhenock is panicky.
"It is not the time to take Corona lightly. Maintain hand hygiene, wear masks; it does not take much effort. Try not to go out. Maintain 'Do Gaj ki Doori', keep yourself healthy," he stated.
We had thought Rongli GREF following guidelines properly but they did not .The CM had an emergency meeting of Task Force discussing the current situation.
In the mean time District Collector, East, Raj Yadav IAS visited Rongli and Rhenock to take stock of the situation himself.
On the other hand, Coronavirus infection among local residents and spike among para military force personnel has evoked reaction in the political circles.
A youth leader Passang Sherpa has alleged that the present situation has been created due to reported ‘negligence of District Administration in allowing the officials and workers of GREF without following the mandatory quarantine and testing protocols'.
This has put life of many people at risk and higher probability of community transmission in Sikkim now, he added and demanded action against the erring officials.
Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee, Secretary Sumitra Rai has also blamed administration for not ensuring adherence to health protocols by GREF resulting in spread of disease among public.
