3 militants arrested during live action, 1 OGW held in 3 days: IGP

Srinagar, Oct 16 (UNI) Urging Kashmiri militants to surrender, even during encounters, to lead a normal life again, Kashmir Inspector General of Police (IGP) Muneer Ahmad Khan on Monday said three local ultras were arrested during live action while an Over Ground Worker (OGW) was apprehended in the last three days in Kashmir valley. Meanwhile, flanked by senior Army and CRPF officers during a press conference here, Mr Khan reiterated the resolve of security agencies to rehabilitate local militants, who are willing to surrender even during encounters. "We have no doubt that militants of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) are behind the recent bank robberies," he said. Giving details about the arrests, the IGP said on October 14 two militants with an intend to snatch weapons of Personnel Security Officers (PSOs) of protected persons in village Kud, Qazigund fired some rounds to scare the policemen and the inhabitants of the area. However, he said the militants had to retreat due to hue and cry raised by the locals. “On the receipt of this information, a joint checkpoint was established by Army, police and CRPF,” he said, adding both the motorcycle-born militants were apprehended. He said one pistol with live ammunition and live grenade were recovered from them. “The militants have been identified as Khurshid Ahmad Dar and Haziq Rather,” the IGP added. Mr Khan said specific information about presence of militants at village Naristan in Tral, a joint operation was launched by Special Operation Group (SOG) of state police, Army and CRPF. During operation, he said a militant, who was later identified as Gulzar Ahmad Dar a member of Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM), was arrested along with arms and ammunition. He said Dar carried out a grenade attack on Minister for Public Works Naeem Akhtar’s motorcade at Tral in Pulwama on September 21. Three civilians were killed and 29 others, including seven CRPF jawans and two policemen, were injured in the attack. “Dar, during questioning, confessed to have hurled a grenade at the motorcade of the Minister." The militant, he said had also lobbed a grenade at bus stand Tral in which five people lost their lives on December 5, 2014. He said the militants attacked a police party at Nandimarg in Kulgam on Saturday evening in which one policeman, Khurshid Ahmad, was martyred and two others were injured. “Investigation was initiated into the attack and it came to surface that Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) was responsible for the attack. We also came to know that OGW, identified as Rameez Yatoo, who runs a medical agency, provided them logistic support,” he said. “Yatoo was arrested and arms and ammunition was recovered from his house,” he added.
