Christchurch, Jan 24 (UNI) New Zealand ‘A’ beat India ‘A’ by 29 runs in the second one-day at the Hagley Oval here on Friday and levelled the three-match series 1-1.
Put in to bat, the hosts were in a spot of bother after being reduced to 109/5. However, George Worker, Jimmy Neesham and Cole McConchie did a fine rebuilding job as New Zealand ‘A’ posted 295 runs on the board, losing seven wickets.
While Worker scored 135 off 144 balls, hitting 12 fours and 6 sixes, McConchie scored 56 from 54 balls. Jimmy Neesham, who had to retire hurt when on 19 before once again taking the field, meanwhile, scored an unbeaten 33 off 31 balls.
For India ‘A’, Ishan Porel scalped three wickets Mohammed Siraj picked up two wickets.
In the chase, India ‘A’ lost Prithvi Shaw early as Kyle Jamieson struck in the first over. While Mayank Agarwal scored 37, New Zealand ‘A’ managed to strike at the regular intervals to reduce India ‘A’ 88/4.
While India ‘A’s lower middle-order, consisting of Ishan Kishan, Vijay Shankar and Krunal Pandya, put up a good fight, scoring 44, 41 and 51 runs respectively, it was not enough as New Zealand ‘A’ restricted India ‘A’ to 266/9 to seal a win.
The teams will play the final match of the series on Sunday.
