29-member Indian team to compete in 2017 Track Asia Cup

New Delhi, Oct 7 (UNI) The Cycling Federation of India (CFI) will host 4th edition of Track Asia Cup from October 10 at the Indoor Cycling Velodrome at IG Sports Complex here, which will see the participation of thirteen teams from 12 Asian countries.

Significantly, a 29-member Indian team will compete in the Track Asia Cup, the three-day long event where more than 150 cyclists from different countries will compete for the top honours.

Speaking about the upcoming event, CFI Secretary General Onkar Singh said,"We have already successfully conducted three editions of the event including Asian Track Cycling Championships in 2016 and this time most of the Indian Junior Cyclists are under top 10 in UCI World Ranking."

"This time we won many medals at International level, this improvement of Indian Cyclists happened due to the maximum exposure to our Indian Cyclists after opening of SAINCA ‘SAI National Cycling Academy’ & World Cycling Satellite Centre in New Delhi," he added.

The third edition of this event hosted in India in 2016 saw the participation of 12 countries where India had finished second in Medal tally with 16 medals including 5 Gold, 4 Silver and 7 Bronze while Hong Kong stood first in medal tally.

He also said that the preparations are done for the Track Asia Cup and the federation is expecting a spectacular event this time where in top Asian cyclists will be competing for the Olympic and World Cup qualifications.

"I would like to wish good luck to all the participants in this event. Our Indian cyclists have worked hard in preparing for this event and I am confident that they will perform well in front of the home
crowd. CFI is fully committed to the development and promotion of the sport in India," Singh said.
