<p>Muzaffarnagar, Aug 19 (UNI) Atleast 23 passengers were killed and over 400 passengers injured, 81 of them critically, when 14 coaches of Haridwar bound Kalinga-Utkal Express derailed near Khatauli station of Uttar Pradesh today UP principal secretary home Arvind Kumar said 20 passengers have been killed and 81 were critically injured in the incident. But DGP office in Lucknow has confirmed of 23 deaths and said the number of injured are 400. UP police did not rule out sabotage behind the accident and even ATS have been asked to investigate the matter. Eye witness says that the death toll could rise further and even unconfirmed reports say that 35 passengers have died and around 600 were injured. Several passengers were still inside the mangled coaches while one coach entered inside a school building. Gas cutter are being used to cut the bogies to bring out the passengers. The Home Secretary said that the train derailed after some jerk near outer signal of Khatauli station. Some bogies climbed on each other while some bogies overturned and entered into the nearby buildings. He said except for four coaches in the front and four on the rear , all other coaches have derailed. The accident took place at 1750 hrs near Khatauli, about 24 kms from Muzaffarnagar. The ill fated train was slated to reach its destination Haridwar at 2100 hrs. Exact cause of the accident could not be ascertained. It is a matter of probe. The police has been asked to even look into terror angle too because engine and first few bogies of the train did not derail. Local residents said that repair work was going on the track and the train passed on a high speed. Officials said NDRF teams along with doctors have rushed to the spot. All hospitals in and around Muzaffarnagar have been alerted. 35 ambulances have reached the spot for ferrying the injured. Two UP ministers Satish Mahana and Suresh Rana have also been rushed to the spot by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The UP CM has condoled the deaths and directed free medical treatment to the injured and have also announced Rs two lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the critically injured. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has ordered a probe into the incident with an announcement of Rs 3.5 lakhs each for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each for the injured. Mr Prabhu in his tweets said: “Have ordered an enquiry into this unfortunate accident to ascertain the casue. Strict action will be taken against any lapse." 2 NDRF teams have reached the spot.
