200 pilgrims leave Baltal for Amarnath yatra, none from Pahalgam

Srinagar, Aug 1 (UNI) While there was no pilgrim from Pahalgam today, about 200 yatris left Baltal base camp for Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas, where so far 2.14 lakh devotees have paid obeisance since the commencement of the 48-day-long pilgrimage from July 2. The pilgrimage was progressing smoothly in a pleasant weather, official sources told UNI. They said owing to some law and order problem in Anantnag, pilgrims from Jammu were taken to Baltal base camp while others stayed at Qazigund camp. No devotee could arrive at Nunwan Pahalgam base camp for security reasons as authorities did not want to take any chance since the vehicles carrying pilgrims had to pass Anantnag, they said, adding that therefore there was no yatri from this route today. However, the pilgrims who had a night halt at Chandwari, the last motorable halting station on the traditional yatra route, left for the cave early this morning. Similarly, other pilgrims who had a night halt at different halting stations are also moving towards the cave shrine. Meanwhile, the pilgrims who halted at Panjterni, reached the cave shrine this morning. About 200 pilgrims, including women and sadhus, left Baltal base camp for the cave shrine and are likely to reach the cave shrine later this afternoon after covering the hilly terrain on foot. Meanwhile, pilgrims who had 'darshan' at the cave shrine yesterday and stayed back, have also started their return journey for Baltal base camp. UNI BAS SB 1108
